Very hardy (being spiny indicates xerophytic habit) Thrives in Tropical and sub-tropical climate. Water logged location is harmful, planted for hedge purpose – spacing – 1.0 – 1.5m in multiple rows. Not cultivated regularly on commercial scale.
Recently grafts are planted. Seedlings also can be used for planting but show variation in fruit qualities and yield. Planting distance is 8 to 10 m. Seeds are sown 2 to 2.5 cm deep in soil.

Package of practices |

Fertilizers and manures should be given regularly. At five years age and there after 1 kg urea, 1.5 kg. superphosphate and ½kg Muriate of potash should be given every year to each plant. Newly planted grafts or seedlings should be irrigated at 4 to 6 days intervbal depending upon season and soil type. Mulching and irrigation should be done for atleast 2 to 3 years or till they establish well. |
