Irrigated crop. Thrives well in warm and humid conditions. Requires annual rainfall of 150m and above. Can be cultivated upto 1300m from MSL. It is a shade loving crop. Spacing 7.5 x 7.5 m in coconut plantation. Planted after heavy rains are over.

  1. Konkan Sungadha : High yielding variety bears both male and female flowers. Medium sized nut of 5.25g. Yields 525 fruits/year.

Soft wood grafts can be prepared throughout the year.

  Plant Protection measures
 

Die back- Application of Bordeaux paste after removal of dead branches. Improve drainage.

Fruit rot – 1% Bordeaux mixture or 0.2% Copperoxy chloride.

                  10th Year – 50kg FYM – 500:250:1000g NPK

  Harvesting
 
Fruit ripe and split open on the tree. The fallen fruits are collected or opened fruits are placed. Mace and nut is separated and dried under sun.
