  Climate  
  It grows well in temperature range of 21-23ēC. Very low temperature is harmful. Bright sunshine and total shade both are harmful. Grows up to 1525 m above mean sea level. Optimum rainfall – 150 to 550cm.  
        
  Type of soil  
  Sandy, loamy or laterite soil on hill slope are best for pineapple. Heavy clay soil with high water table are not conducive. pH range – 5.5 to 6.0.

  Kew  
 
Fruits are large size with average wt. of 1.9 kg, Range of fruit wt – 1.6 – 3.0 kg. Very juicy pleasant flavour. Taste is acidic, eyes broard. Shape of fruit cylindrical. Ideal for canning.
 
     
  Queen  
 
Not suitable for canning. Table purpose variety. Fruit size – small. Av. wt. 1.25 kg, range – 1-2 kg eye are deep sweet taste. keeping quality is good.
 
     
  Mauritius  
 

Mid season variety. Two types – yellow and red skinned.

  Irrigation  
 
During winter at an interval of 20 days and during summer at the interval of 10 days.
 
   
  Fertilizers  
  NPK requirements @ 16g, 8g and 8g/plant respectively. N is applied in three split doses at 4 month interval K in two splits while P at the time of planting.  
     
  Weeding  
  Manual weeding is expensive. Use chemical herbicides . 1) Diuraon @ 2 kg and Bromacil @ 3 kg /ha. at 6 month inverval or 2) Monouron @ 2 kg/ha.  
     
  Earthing up  
 
Earthing up be done after fertilizer application and after harvesting.
 
     
  Flowering  
  Flowering starts after 11 to 12 months. Under optimum nutritional and environmental condition only 40 to 50% plants flowers. Therefore regulation of flowering with hormones is necessary.  
     
  Regulation of flowering  
  For maximum flowreing 1% calcium carbide solution (50ml) per plant should be applied in the heart after 11 to 12 months from planting.  
     
  Plant protection  
  Basal portion of planting material is treated with 0.02 to 0.04 % methyl parathion against mealy bugs. Thimet 10 G should be applied at an interval of 4 months.  
     
  Harvesting  
 
lowermost eyes in kew pineapple become flattened and of orange yellow colour. Fruits are harvested between 115 to 130 day after flowering
 
     
  Yield  
  40 to 50 tonnes/ha.  
     
  Ripening  
  For uniform ripening with yellow colour ethrel treatment @ 500 to 2000 ppm is recommended
