The Konkan region is a storehouse of medicinal plants. University has given priority to conservation of medicinal plants and in creating public awareness of this natural wealth. The concept of “Charak Samhita” has been adopted for the establishment of herbal garden at Forestry Research Farm of the University. The herbal garden is laid out according to “Charak Samhita” by forming groups of plants on the basis of their medicinal value to cure particular disease of human beings. In each group, eight plants are planted on radius of 4m circle. At the center of the circle of plants species, name of the disease is given. Each plant species is labeled with vernacular name, scientific name and different plant parts used for curing the disease. At present, total 92 medicinal plants have been planted in different groups. Medicinal plants nursery is also equipped to supply of planting material to the farmers and public.
