Major Activities | ||
| Developing super fine rice varieties of appropriate duration suitable for low lying pockets.
Testing high yielding medium and coarse grained rice varieties for uplands. Testing suitable pulse, oilseed, forage or vegetable crops in uplands and low lands in a rice based cropping system, with and without irrigation. Developing suitable varieties of oilseeds like groundnut and sesamum found to be suitable in rice fallows. Identifying high yielding varieties of Ragi and Vari for uplands. Developing appropriate cultural practices for establishing second crop in rice fallows and working out agronomy in rice based cropping system. Identification and development of leguminous and non-leguminous fodder crops for the entire zone with special reference to rice based farming system. Evaluating and identifying improved varieties of vegetable for upland and in rice fallows. Developing information on agronomic practices for cultivation of major vegetable crops. Studies on pests, diseases and weed control in rice, rice based cropping system and vegetable crops as relevant to the region. Identifying fruit crops suited for region and developing proper agro-techniques for their cultivation. Research on ornamental crops, in view of market demand. |
